Geographica dinner
with the RcGS
Branding, Event Collateral
The Royal Canadian Geographic Society hosts an annual Geographica dinner (formerly known as the RCGS gala) to bring together executives, partners, VIPs, and key stakeholders for an evening of networking, recognition, and strategic discussions. For the 2023 event, the company wanted to elevate the experience with a sophisticated rebrand that reflected innovation, leadership, and growth while remaining consistent with their current brand.
The objective was to create a premium event brand that could be applied seamlessly across print, digital, environmental, and presentation materials.
The Challenge
Previous event branding felt dated and lacked the sophistication the RCGS board and stakeholders were pivoting towards. A new name and event brand identity was needed to appeal to a new audience .
The key challenges included:
Creating a unique event identity while maintaining current RCGS and Canadian Geographic brand standards.
Appealing to a senior executive, and celebrity audience.
Ensuring consistency across materials produced by multiple vendors.
Discovery & Strategy
The project began with meetings with the RCGS board for a review of previous event materials. Through discussions with the executive team, three key themes emerged:
Leadership
Innovation
Connection
Design Goals
Create a premium, executive-level experience.
Differentiate the event from day-to-day corporate communications.
Enhance attendee engagement and event recognition.
Creative Solution
Visual Identity
The event theme, "Shaping Tomorrow Together," became the foundation of the visual identity.
The design system featured:
Geometric linework symbolizing connectivity and growth.
A refined color palette using deep navy, platinum silver, and accent gold.
Modern typography paired with elegant spacing and layouts.
Dynamic graphic elements inspired by data networks and strategic pathways.
The resulting identity felt contemporary, premium, and aligned with GlobalTech's corporate values.
